Minot Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on June 19.
Magic 60 returns this summer
In an effort to engage community members in improving Minot, the Minot Young Professionals and United Community Bank have partnered to bring back Magic 60, a microgrant program, as a vehicle for residents to make an impact on our community.
The premise of Magic 60 is that community members are asked to think of projects that add to the quality of life in Minot and present them to a judging panel. The only caveat: All presentations must be made in sixty seconds or less.
The format for 2018Õs Magic 60 is changing to engage more community members and garner more excitement from the general public through an online submission and voting platform, where the number of Facebook ÒlikesÓ received by a participantÕs video will be factored into their judging score.
Community members are encouraged to submit project ideas that run the gamete, from community art and music projects to events and charity programs. Once a community member submits their project idea, they will be invited to create their sixty second video and participate in Magic 60Õs online voting period. A panel of community members will judge each projectÕs potential impact and level of community engagement and support to make funding decisions in early August. All potential projects must be to improve the Minot community, and private business ideas will not be considered. $5,000 has been raised for the Magic 60 grant pool to be distributed to great ideas, with $2,500 from United Community Bank and $2,500 from Minot Young Professionals.
ÒWe are so grateful for the support of United Community Bank and the ability to provide dollars to help better our community,Ó remarked Preston Phillips, President of Minot Young Professionals. ÒWith Magic 60, we are always so impressed with the caliber of project ideas and the impact the event has on the community. We look forward to making another impact on Minot in this summer.Ó
Individuals are encouraged to submit their project ideas by June 15th by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org with a brief description of their project (150-word maximum), including a budget, and their contact information. The online voting period for videos and projects will begin on July 1st and conclude on July 31st. Magic 60 awards will be announced early August.
For more information, interested individuals are asked to contact Minot Young Professionals at 701-303-0840.
