Rugby ranked 71st in North Dakota for the percentage of households receiving food stamps in 2017, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

197 of 1,392 Rugby households (14.2 percent) received food stamps. Rugby's population reached 2,847 people in 2017.

The city with the largest percentage of households receiving food stamps in the state was Fort Totten, which had 177 of 301 households receiving food stamps, 44.6 percent more than Rugby. In 2017 the population of Fort Totten was 1,372.

The city with the lowest percentage of households receiving food stamps in the state was Kenmare, which had 2 of 379 households receiving food stamps, 13.7 percent less than Rugby. In 2017 the population of Kenmare was 887.
